Google Workspace

How to buy or transfer a Google Workspace subscription through Silurian, manage licences and billing, and optionally connect your directory for day-to-day user administration.

Public guideReviewed 2026-08-25
01

What Silurian manages for you

Your order records the Google Workspace edition, billing commitment, number of user licences and primary domain. Silurian handles your subscription, invoicing, licence changes and renewal - Google supplies the actual Workspace applications (Gmail, Drive, Meet and the rest) and the Google Admin console you'll use for day-to-day settings.

02

Starting fresh or transferring an existing subscription

Choose a new subscription if your domain has no active Google Workspace account yet. If you already have Workspace - through Google directly or another provider - contact Silurian before checkout so we can confirm your edition, billing commitment and transfer eligibility. Moving your subscription to Silurian never requires moving your domain registration or DNS hosting.

03

How purchase and activation work

You'll be asked for your domain, plan, number of licences, an initial administrator and an external recovery email address.

  • Add your chosen subscription to the cart and confirm your billing details.
  • Silurian checks current pricing against Google's published rates before your order is created.
  • Once you've paid, Silurian reviews your domain and any existing Workspace setup.
  • For a brand-new account, an initial Super Admin is created for you and its credentials are sent to your external recovery address.
  • You sign in to Google Admin and accept Google's terms yourself before activation completes.
  • Finish Google's domain verification step and publish the MX records you're given.
04

Domain and DNS setup

Your Workspace domain can be registered and hosted anywhere - it doesn't need to be with Silurian. Google requires a verification record and mail-routing (MX) records to be published. Changing your MX records is what actually redirects new incoming mail to Google, so plan the cutover carefully and make sure you're not losing access to existing mail during the switch.

05

Licence counts and commitments

Each active user normally needs one licence; email aliases generally don't need their own. Flexible billing plans let you adjust your licence count month to month. Annual plans commit you to your purchased licence count for the current term - you can add more licences at any time, but a reduction typically only takes effect at renewal.

06

Two ways to administer users

Subscription, billing and licence management are always available directly in Silurian. Without connecting your directory, you manage users and groups the normal way, in Google Admin. If you choose to connect your directory, you can also create and suspend users, manage aliases and group membership, and assign licences straight from Silurian - Google Admin stays available alongside this and is still where you configure organisational units, apps, advanced security, devices and audit settings.

07

How to connect your existing directory

Only your Silurian account owner can authorise this connection.

  • Read and accept the Workspace management authorisation shown in Silurian - your acceptance is kept on record.
  • Sign in to Google Admin as a Super Admin and grant the service account shown a limited administrator role, scoped to users, groups and licence management only.
  • Go back to Silurian and verify the connection is active.
  • You can remove that role in Google Admin and disconnect in Silurian at any time you no longer want administration available from Silurian.
08

What Silurian's access can and can't do

The connection uses a service account, not a Super Admin login, and Silurian never asks for or has your Google administrator password. It can only manage directory users, aliases, groups, group membership and licence assignment - it cannot read Gmail messages, Drive files, Calendar entries, or access device or advanced-security settings. Every action it takes is recorded in Google's own audit logs, visible to you in Google Admin.

09

Renewals, support and staying in control

Keep your billing details and authorised contact up to date before each renewal - a failed renewal can interrupt your Workspace services. Silurian can help investigate any subscription, billing or connected-directory issue. You always remain the owner of your Google account and can use Google Admin directly, or disconnect Silurian's administration access, at any time.
