Checkout and payment

What happens between adding something to your cart and having a confirmed order - including why prices and availability are checked again at the very last moment.

01

Why your cart is re-checked at checkout

Your cart is a provisional plan, not a locked-in order. Once you sign in to complete it, Silurian confirms your billing details, calculates the correct tax for your situation, and checks each product again before turning your cart into a final, immutable order.

  • A domain's availability is checked again, without actually registering it, in case someone else has taken it in the meantime.
  • If prices have changed since you added something to your cart, you'll see the current catalogue price rather than an old quote.
  • If your tax situation or product combination needs a closer look, your order pauses for review rather than guessing.
02

Billing address and tax

Your price quote is tied to your current cart, billing address and tax profile - changing your product selection, address, customer type or VAT details triggers a fresh calculation. If your situation is unusual (a special territory, or tax evidence Silurian can't safely resolve automatically), your order pauses for a manual review rather than applying a guessed tax rate.

03

How payment confirmation works

Your card details are handled directly by our secure payment processor and never pass through or remain on Silurian's servers. An order becomes paid only after an authenticated processor result matches its order, account, amount and currency. If that result is delayed, the order remains unresolved until the processor supplies a final outcome.

04

How totals are calculated

Tax is calculated at higher precision and the final charge and invoice total are rounded to normal currency cents. The processor receives that same two-decimal total. Any residual rounding adjustment is recorded explicitly on the invoice so the accounting document and charge remain equal.

05

Mobile number verification

For a paid order, Silurian may let you complete mobile verification after payment instead of before, so it doesn't interrupt your purchase - but your order can't be invoiced or provisioned until you finish that normal SMS verification step. Free orders need verification completed before the order is even created.

06

What happens if you don't finish paying

An order waiting for payment is held for 15 minutes. If you never attempted payment in that window, it's released and you can simply start again with a fresh cart at current prices. If you did start a payment attempt, your order stays locked until that specific payment is fully resolved, so you can't accidentally pay twice.
